INDIANAPOLIS – Volunteers broke ground Saturday on a new pocket park coming to the Indy's southeast side.

The park, located in the Mars Hill neighborhood, will fill the vacant lot next to the Community Caring and Sharing Center on Holt Rd.

Mars Hill community members and volunteers began clearing the land Saturday in preparation for construction. Mayor Joe Hogsett also joined the group to help the effort.

"I love it, people drive through and think bad things," said Renee Rodriguez. "They see empty lots and houses, it reinforces bad things happen here. It will be good symbol for the neighborhood."

The new park is an initiative of Keep Indianapolis Beautiful.
