INDIANAPOLIS – Bacon finds its way onto just about anything…the feature on graphic t-shirts, donuts and it will soon be found on popcorn at Mass Ave’s latest restaurant, Rooster’s Kitchen.

Replacing the space at 888 Massachusetts Ave. where R Bistro once sat for 15 years, Rooster’s is the brainchild of owner, Ross Katz, who isn’t new to the restaurant business.

Katz got his foot in the door by answering phones at a local pizza place and eventually worked his way up to becoming manager at RAM Restaurant & Brewery and Sun King Brewing Company.

Now Katz is ready to take on his own when his 70-seat restaurant opens for lunch and dinner in October. On the menu, you’ll find shareable plates, sandwiches, meats and a variety of beverages.

Roasted pork shoulder, braised brisket and herb roasted turkey steal the spotlight on the menu but you’ll also find grilled cheese and a sandwich loaded with bacon called the Canadian Tuxedo.

While some may call this a “bacon-themed” restaurant, Katz said its more of comfort food he grew up with as a child, mixed in with some of his hobbies.

“When I was a kid, my house was the house where everyone wanted to eat,” he said. “Some of the recipes come from my mom but also, I cure bacon as a hobby so some of that is added as well.”

The eatery’s floors are currently being installed and the draft beer taps will be added soon, said Katz.

Rooster's will also specialize in craft beer.

Katz will operate as chef and owner but plans to hire a two to four kitchen staff and a couple of servers and bartenders. With the small number, he hopes to bring out creativity amongst the team.

“A lot of the recipes are my own but I’m open to ideas. This venture is all about having a good time,” said Katz.
