Massive hole in need of repair traps cars, fire trucks on Indy's southwest side

Posted

INDIANAPOLIS – Although community members have nicknamed a massive hole in their neighborhood, “Lake Waldemere,” they aren’t attached to it, and would still like to see it repaired.

The hole at Lambert and Waldemere streets has trapped cars inside and as of recently, a fire truck was stopped in its tracks. The hole is causing problems, but neighbors on the southwest side aren’t sure if the city has the money to pay for repairs.

“It has never dried up the five or six years we’ve been here,” said John Rosner. “It doesn’t matter if it hadn’t rained for a week or two, it never dries up and that’s why we think there is some kind of leak. Cars are bottoming out and they have to be pulled out.”

The city will use $77 million to pay for the resurfacing of Fall Creek from Kessler to Shadeland, but the hole on Waldemere Avenue isn’t on the priority list.

Homeowners were encouraged to reach out to their city-county councilor for assistance.
