GARRETT — A missing northern Indiana teenager who was the subject of a Silver Alert was found in Tennessee.

According to a release from the Indiana State Police, Shayden D. Howard's parents reported him missing on May 6 to the Garrett Police Department. After several days of investigation, a Silver Alert was issued on May 16 and Howard was thought to be with a 36-year-old white male.

Officers in Hamilton County, Tenn. arrested the older man Monday for public intoxication, but they were unable to identify Howard.

Prosecutor officials from Tennessee contacted the DeKalb County Prosecutor's Office to check on the older man's criminal history when they learned about the Silver Alert and were able to verify Howard's identity.

An arrest warrant on a preliminary charge of kidnapping has been issued in DeKalb County for the older man, who is being extradited back to northern Indiana.
