INDIANAPOLIS — Employees from Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield will participate in a mobile food distribution on Saturday at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Because of COVID-19, the event will be a no-contact, mobile food distribution. The goal is to serve up to 2,000 households with food, fresh produce, frozen meats and dairy.

The program is part of "No One Runs on Empty," a hunger initiative of Gleaners Food Bank, funded by a $1 million matching grant from the Anthem Foundation.

More than 1 million Hoosiers were food insecure prior to COVID-19. According to data from Feeding America, the current food insecurity rate in Indiana has risen from 13.3% to 20%.

The event runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the speedway's Gate 2, 4790 W. 16th St.
