Churchgoers sickened by drug-laced cookies

ELLETTSVILLE, Ind. -- Several church members in Monroe County were sickened last month after eating drug-laced cookies.

Police say a fellow parishioner is the one who handed them out.

Six members of the St. John the Apostle Catholic Church in Ellettsville were sickened by cookies they were given after Sunday Mass on May 22.

At least one of the cookies showed it contained THC – the active component of marijuana.

Police were unwilling to say it was the THC that made the people sick, but said it was the only common factor between each of the cases.

The church's pastor, Father Daniel Mahan, says he feels terrible for the victims.

He also says he'll wait on the final results of the police investigation before making any decisions about church discipline.
