STINESVILLE, Ind. -- The board of the Richland-Bean Blossom Community School Corporation voted Monday night to close Stinesville Elementary School for good.
The vote was 4-1 to close the school following the 2017-2018 school year.
The school board president was the only one to vote against the closure.
Stinesville Elementary has seen a steady decline in enrollment over the past several years, according to Superintendent Mike Wilcox. Only 148 students are currently enrolled.
Students from the school will be moved to Edgewood Primary and Intermediate schools.
According to Wilcox, closing the elementary school will save the district $600,000 in the first year. He said keeping the school open has become a financial drain and it would cost nearly $8 million to renovate it.
