Man sentenced to probation after setting cat on fire, killing it

CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. – The man charged with animal cruelty after he set a cat on fire in January, was sentenced to probation Tuesday and ordered to pay a fine.

Noah Riley, 19, was sentenced to 730 days of probation. He will receive jail credit of 48 days. He was also ordered to pay $3,304.39 in restitution to the Animal Welfare League.

According to the Animal Welfare League of Montgomery County, the cat was tied up, doused in gasoline and set ablaze.

The cat, named Phoenix, died from her injuries days following the incident.

The Animal Welfare League of Montgomery County received more than $8,000 in donations to help save the cat’s life.
