INDIANAPOLIS – With more than a quarter million people expected to watch fireworks in downtown Indy Tuesday night, public safety officials have stepped up security in the area.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department plan to deploy extra officers during fireworks.

“You'll see more officers downtown, more officers in uniform, more officers on the corners directing traffic and directing people and just out in the crowds ensuring everybody's safety,” said Rick Riddle with IMPD.

Other public safety officials, like those with the Indianapolis Fire Department, also plan to stay alert during the event.
