FRANKLIN, Ind. -- More than 50 suspected drug dealers were facing arrest warrants Tuesday after a year-long investigation into their activities.
Authorities with the Johnson County Prosecutor’s Office, the Johnson County Sheriff’s Department, the Franklin Police Department, Indiana State Police, the US Marshals Service and several other local police departments swept the area beginning at 5:30 a.m. Tuesday morning to serve the arrest warrants. So far, 30 of the 50 have been taken off the streets.
Franklin resident Robert Chadwick said he was shocked when police began showing up at his apartment complex.
"It's crazy to think when you see families out here, the people playing in streets, and then you hear about a drug sweep right next door to you," he said. "But in any area you never know what's going on behind closed doors."
Police said more than 60 percent of the people suspected of dealing meth, heroin and other narcotics are off the streets thanks to the largest drug sweep in six years.
