Gazebo on Morgan Co. courthouse lawn 'not a hotel' says prosecutor

Posted

MORGAN COUNTY, Ind. -- Morgan County Prosecutor Steve Sonnega says the gazebo on the south lawn of the county courthouse in Martinsville is “not a hotel.”

But some people are using it as a place to sleep and that has Sonnega and county commissioners concerned.

The commission has voted to place the gazebo off-limits from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. as soon as “no trespassing” signs can be put up.

Sonnega and courthouse employees who work at night say they have noticed people sleeping in the gazebo.

Some are making what Sonnega called “rude comments” to female employees as they come and go into the building.

Once the signs are up, violators could be charged with trespassing.

The area is patrolled by Martinsville police and the Morgan County Sheriff’s Department.
