MARTINSVILLE, Ind. -- If you can’t leave home to visit the Martinsville library, the library will visit you.
Starting November 8th, The Martinsville library, which is part of the Morgan County system, will deliver its materials to city residents who are homebound due to age, illness or disability.
It’s a free service, similar to one that some other Indiana libraries offer.
Library Director Krista Ledbetter says two senior living facilities in Martinsville have been getting deliveries for years and the goal has always been to expand to the entire community.
The problem was finding a suitable vehicle. “The library has a large box truck it uses to move materials between our branches, but our only other vehicle was an aging panel van. The van was on its last legs, and so the Library Board granted us permission to purchase a new multi-purpose vehicle," said Ledbetter.
Ledbetter expects a big demand for the delivery service, "As the program grows, we may incorporate more volunteers or explore partnerships with other organizations who provide services to seniors.”
Homebound patrons can request specific titles or they can ask for more general topics and then choose from an assortment the library will bring them.
