Mooresville preschool teacher cancer-free after given one year to live

Posted

MOORSEVILLE, Ind. – A Moorseville preschool teacher suddenly diagnosed with brain cancer received a clean bill of health this week just four months after the illness was detected.

Amanda Anderson, 32, underwent brain surgery to remove the malignant tumor in April, but said since the good news, she has a new outlook on life. Doctors originally believed she only had one year to live.

"I want to shout out to everyone it's a miracle,” said Anderson. “I want to say God is definitely real. There is no doubt about it, I shouldn't be here. I shouldn't be off treatment. I shouldn't be cancer free."

Anderson was fired from her teaching job shortly after she shared her diagnosis with her employer.

“It is a shock,” Anderson previously said. “I would never treat somebody like that. I just wouldn't.”

She thought her constant headaches and nausea were linked to a sinus infection, but doctors said her symptoms were caused by a brain tumor.

Anderson currently teaches at her home.

"We love her. She's loves our children,” said parent Tessa Squires. “It's kind of like your family member. It's remarkable."
