Mom of man pulled from White River wants answers

Posted

INDIANAPOLIS -- The mother of a man found dead in the White River is hoping a monetary reward will help bring her son's killer to justice.

Judith Howard reads the same poem every day. She says it provides some comfort following the death of her son, James Rice.

It's been almost two months since the 44-year-old's torso was pulled out of the White River. He went missing two days prior to the discovery.

"People going around saying different things, but every time I ask them if they'll say it to the police, they won't talk to the police," Howard said.

After seven weeks of silence, Howard is hoping money will loosen mouths. From her own savings and donations from Rice's friends, she's scraped together $10,000 to be offered up as a reward to the person who provides information leading to the arrest and conviction of her son's killer.

"Knowing that they are in jail and getting their time that they deserve for killing my son cause they didn't have to do my son like that," Howard said.

If you have information that might help police, you can call Crime Stoppers at 317-262-TIPS or Detective Charles Benner directly at 317-327-3311.
