HANCOCK COUNTY — A mother and son are dead after a crash early Monday morning in Hancock County.

Hancock County Sheriff's Department deputies responded to the scene near County Road 200 South and County Road 200 West just after 6 a.m. for a crash involving a 2019 Ford F-350 and a 2006 Chevrolet HHR.

Deputies arrived on the scene to find the driver and passenger of the Chevrolet HHR unresponsive. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

They were later identified as Amy Cox, 44, and her son Isaac Cox, 24, both from New Palestine.

Witnesses at the scene told deputies that the Chevrolet HHR was traveling north on CR 200 West when it lost control and spun into the southbound lanes where it was struck by the F-350.

The 21-year-old driver of the truck was transported to the hospital to be checked out. Police say he is cooperating with their investigation and speed, drugs and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the crash. Weather conditions likely played a role.

"Police remind driver’s to slow down and use extreme caution when driving in in climate weather," the Hancock County Sheriff's Office said in a press release. "Stay home if possible, but if you must travel give plenty of room for road crews to work clearing the roads."
