BARTHOLOMEW COUNTY, Ind. -- A motorcyclist died late Monday night after he ran off the road in Bartholomew County, possibly following an earlier police chase.
Deputies say it appears Xavier Maurice Scrogham, 18, was headed east on Sunland Road when his motorcycle missed a turn, went across a grassy area and hit a telephone pole guide wire.
Scrogham was thrown from the motorcycle and was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators say he was wearing a helmet.
Authorities with the Bartholomew County Sheriff's Office say they believe Scrogham was involved in a pursuit about 10 minutes earlier with a Nashville Police Department reserve officer.
The Nashville officer lost sight of Scrogham's motorcycle and the pursuit was terminated.
