Motorcyclist killed after colliding with van on Indianapolis' northwest side

INDIANAPOLIS -- A man driving a motorcycle was killed in a crash on Indianapolis' northwest side Wednesday afternoon. 

The crash happened near the intersection of 86th Street and Payne Road just before 5 p.m.

According to Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers on the scene, a woman driving a van was making a left turn onto Payne Road when she collided with the motorcyclist.

Witnesses told police that the motorcycle was traveling at a high rate of speed when the crash happened.

The driver of the motorcycle was taken to St. Vincent Hospital where he later died. He was identified by the Marion County Coroner as Austin Lee, 19. 

The driver of the van stayed on scene and has cooperated with police. She is not facing any charges at this time. 

The crash remains under investigation by the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.
