INDIANAPOLIS — The sun is out and the thermometer is finally reaching into the mid-70s, so it's time to emerge from hibernation and get outside.
Downtown Indy, Inc. released its spring and summer lineup of activities on the Downtown Canal Walk and Georgia Street. Here is the schedule:
Canal Awakens: Saturday, April 27, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
A free event in which attendees can explore the business, restaurants and attractions located along the 1.5-mile canal. You can grab a passport from any of the participating business and get it stamped to be entered into prize giveaways.
Colts Canal Playscape: Open dusk to dawn
Located near the Walnut Street basin, the Playscape includes a vertical climbing tower and ladder, a spinner bowl, twister nets and stepping stones.
Sunset Cinema on the Canal: May 16, June 20, July 18 and Aug. 22
Free outdoor movies will be shown on a large movie screen located on the north end of the canal near the Admiral Spruance Basin by 11th Street. Movies will include "Grease" (May 16), "E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial" (June 20), "Splash" (July 18) and "Days of Thunder (Aug. 22). All movies will start at dusk around 9:15 p.m.
Sunrise Yoga on the Canal: Wednesdays from June 5 through Aug. 28, 6 a.m. to 6:45 a.m.
Bring your own mat and practice yoga in the mornings on the Vermont Street Plaza.
Brickyard Pit Stop Paddle: Thursday, Aug. 22
People can form teams of eight to race in pedal boats on the canal. Races will start at 5 p.m. with four team members starting near the Ohio Street bridge. They will pedal to the New York Street bridge to switch places with the four remaining team members to race back to the start. Organizers hope to find 16 or more teams to participate, and the single-elimination bracket will conclude with a championship race.
Additionally, Georgia Street activities throughout the summer will include Workout Wednesdays from noon to 12:45 p.m. May 1 through Sept. 25, and Food Truck Fridays from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. May 3 through Aug. 23.
