Multiple families displaced after fire damages Greenwood apartment complex

GREENWOOD, Ind. -- Several apartments were severely damaged after a fire broke out at a Greenwood complex Wednesday afternoon.

The fire was called in just after 2 p.m. at Emerald Lake Apartments on Sheek Road.

Fire officials say the strong winds advanced the flames quickly through the building, damaging multiple units. 

No pets or people were injured. 

Because of the extent of damage from the fire, 24 families will be displaced. Residents living in the complex say they were told the building is a "total loss."

Residents living in the apartment complex say the building is a total loss and they will not be able to return to their units. 

The cause of the fire has not been released.
