BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The Monroe County Health Department reported five new cases of mumps Tuesday, including the first cases found in the county outside of the IU campus.
The outbreak, which began earlier this year, has until now been mostly contained to campuses at Indiana University in Bloomington and Butler University and IUPUI in Indianapolis.

The latest cases bring the total number in the state to at least 42:
- Butler University: 21
- IU Bloomington/Monroe County: 14
- IUPUI: 3
- Marion County: 4
Monroe County Health Department Administrator Penny Caudill said there has been no link found among confirmed cases.

To prevent infection:
- Check your vaccination record with your primary care provider
- Practice good hygiene habits - wash hands, sneeze and cough into a tissue or your elbow, don't share food and/or drinks
- Stay at home if you have any symptoms
