MUNCIE—Accidents involving people and trains are not uncommon in Muncie, but this incident is different.
A 19-year-old Muncie man has been charged with Attempted Murder for allegedly pushing his girlfriend in front of a moving freight train.
She survived, but with serious injuries.
It happened in June at a crossing on West 23rd Street in Muncie.
This week, Di Morriea Turner was arrested on a number of charges, including Attempted Murder.
According to a probable cause affidavit from the Delaware County Prosecutor, Turner and the girl had been arguing near the Norfolk Southern track as a train approached.
A Norfolk Southern employee on the train told police it appeared to him that the victim was "hurled" over her boyfriend's shoulder and into the path of the train.
A Muncie police investigator also viewed surveillance video from the train which showed Turner moving the victim in front of the approaching train.
The 17-year-old was flown to Riley Hospital for Children. There, according to the prosecutor, she underwent facial reconstructive surgery and was treated for a number of other injuries.
When interviewed by an investigator, she said she couldn't remember what happened.
