MUNCIE, Ind. -- A Muncie man who spent nearly 25 years in prison for rape is now free after a judge overturned his conviction on Wednesday.

Delaware Circuit Judge Kimberly Dowling granted a motion to set aside William Barnhouse’s 1992 conviction.

Prosecutors with the Innocence Project filed a motion for Barnhouse, 60, to be released after a DNA test they commissioned showed someone else’s semen on the victim’s pants.

The Innocence Project has exonerated more than 300 convicted felons through DNA results since they were founded in 1992.

The Innocence Project’s mission is to free the staggering number of innocent people who remain incarcerated, and to bring reform to the system responsible for their unjust imprisonment.
