MUNCIE, Ind. -- City leaders in Muncie announced a new program on Wednesday to connect Muncie’s youth with jobs and mentors in the ongoing effort to help curb violence in the city.
Muncie Mayor Dennis Tyler invited Indianapolis’ Ten Point Coalition along with the city’s new crime-fighting organization “Enough is Enough” and several other city leaders for the official launch of the program.
Mayor Tyler said the goal of the program is to get kids to believe in themselves again and he hopes that members of the community will see its value and get involved.
“Sometimes it’s real easy to sit in your recliner at night and not worry about what’s going on in your neighborhood,” said Mayor Tyler. “What we’re hoping is that the people who live in those neighborhoods, that know what’s going on, will get involved with this and they’ll want to make a positive difference in some of these young men and women’s lives.”
The mayor said he will work with local companies in the coming weeks to form partnerships for the program and create employment opportunities for young adults in Muncie.
