INDIANAPOLIS -- A naked man who was hit by a car on I-465 southbound near 38th Street on the city's west side Monday is recovering in the hospital.

According to a press release from the Indiana State Police, the naked man was hit around 1:00 p.m. Shortly before police arrived, witnesses said the man walked out into traffic and was hit by a car. When police arrived, they found the man, still conscious and breathing, being tended to by people that had stopped to help.

The driver of the car that hit him was not injured.

Preliminary information indicates the man stopped his car on the right shoulder for unknown reasons, got out of his car and started walking on the shoulder leaving a trail of his clothes behind him on the ground. Witnesses saw him repeatedly flailing his arms and throwing himself on the concrete wall along the interstate and falling down as he was taking off his clothes.

It appears the man may have been under the influence of drugs at the time, according to the Indiana State Police. He faces preliminary charges of public intoxication and indecent exposure.

The man was taken to Eskenazi Hospital. His injuries do not appear to be life-threatening, but the extent of his injuries are unknown, according to ISP.
