CARMEL, Ind. -- Traffic was shut down for more than two hours on northbound Keystone Parkway between 96th Street and 106th Street after a semi hit the 106th Street overpass.

According to a press release from the Carmel Police Department, the semi trailer was loaded with two large steel pipes weighing approximately 16,000 pounds. The steel pipes collided with the overpass and caused significant damage to the overpass.

Debris from the collision fell onto Keystone Parkway. Two cars collided with the debris.

There were no injuries reported in the crash.

However, Carmel Mayor James Brainard says city attorneys are drawing up paperwork to recover losses from both the State of Indiana and the trucking company.

Brainard says the State of Indiana signed a one-time oversize permit and approved the route for the trucking company, but he says the state miscalculated and the permit should never have been signed.

He also says the truck driver, using his professional sense, should never have approached the overpass.
