INDIANAPOLIS — The newest Indianapolis library branch will open June 1, with an open house from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Eagle Branch is a 20,000 square-foot building at West 38th Street and Moller Road.

The open house will feature a ribbon-cutting at 10:30 a.m., followed by guided tours, live music, face painting and other activities.

Library workers have been putting the finishing touches on the branch in recent weeks, which includes moving materials from the former Eagle Branch at 3325 Lowry Road.

According to library spokesman Jon Barnes, "The Eagle Branch will provide greater access to library services and improve library visibility on the west side. It will offer engaging and functional spaces for services to children, teens and adults."

The branch will have a 100-seat community meeting room, and there will be more computers than the former site.

As for books, there are about 50,000 on the shelves of the Eagle Branch.

The cost of the building is $7.4 million and is funded through bonds approved by the Indianapolis City-County Council.

The Eagle Branch joins the Michigan Road Branch, which opened last December, as the newest facilities in the library system.

Additional branches are planned in Brightwood, Glendale, Perry Township and Fort Harrison.

Five other existing branches have been renovated, or will be by 2022.
