BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Completion of the I-69 section from Bloomington to Martinsville has been pushed back to October 2017.
The project was originally set to be completed by June of 2017 but the Indiana Finance Authority said they had to push back that timeline because of problems with the contractor and making sure workers are being paid.
The project, Section 5 of the overall I-69 expansion, is a 21-mile leg between Bloomington and Martinsville. It’s the second-to-last phase of the project to extend I-69 between Evansville and Indianapolis.
Earlier this month the Indiana Finance Authority sent a letter of non-performance to the developers in charge of the project for breach of contract over not paying contractors.
Default notices were issued by I-69 Development Partners to their main contractors back in August, telling them they had 20 days to pay their subcontractors.
The state says they still hope that the project will be completed prior to their deadline but based on the recent issues surrounding the contractors the October deadline is the most conservative date they believe construction can be completed.
