NOBLESVILLE — Noblesville fire chief Greg Wyant announced he will retire at the end of the year.
Wyant, a 25-year veteran of the Noblesville Fire Department, has been the department's chief since 2015. He previously worked as a firefighter, lieutenant, captain, division chief and assistant chief, according to a release from the city. Before joining the department, Wyant served six years in the United States Navy.
“The entirety of my adult career has been employment in the public sector," Wyant said. "While I have thoroughly enjoyed all of my various roles, I have a strong desire to explore private sector opportunities."
Wyant was appointed by former Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels and reappointed by Govs. Mike Pence and Eric Holcomb to serve on the Indiana Board of Firefighting Personnel Standards and Educations.

Noblesville Mayor John Ditslear praised Wyant's service to the city and wished him luck in the next stage of his life.
“Despite the growth of our community, under Chief Wyant’s leadership the NFD response times have never been faster or the quality of service better. Our residents know that when they are in an emergency, the fire department will be there to assist them with the highest professional standards,” Ditslear said.
Wyant said his proudest accomplishment was research he conducted on cancer risks among firefighters that was published in the International Fire Service Journal of Leadership and Management and implemented in Noblesville and at other fire departments.
“I am grateful to Mayor Ditslear for giving me the opportunity to lead this department," Wyant said. "It has been an honor to serve the citizens of Noblesville. I will always value the memories of my 25-plus years at NFD and the relationships with my colleagues in the profession."
