Chief Ben Seastorm of the Nashville Police Department confirmed that Leonard Burch resigned Sept. 1.

Scrogham was thrown from the motorcycle and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities with the Bartholomew County Sheriff's Office say they believe Scrogham was involved in a pursuit about 10 minutes earlier with Burch.

The Nashville officer lost sight of Scrogham's motorcycle and the pursuit was terminated.
