INDIANAPOLIS -- A 13-year-old boy was killed and a woman was critically injured after their vehicle was struck in the emergency lane on I-465 Tuesday evening.
Police were called to the scene on northbound I-465 near the 71st Street exit around 6:30 p.m.
Investigators say a Ford Escape pulling a small U-Haul trailer was in the emergency lane, apparently disabled, when it was struck by a Toyota Camry.
Police say Fambridge Conway, 40, and Malcom Conway, 13, were outside the vehicle when it was hit.
Fambridge was trapped underneath the Toyota. She was extricated by emergency personnel and taken to St. Vincent Hospital in critical condition. Malcom was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Toyota submitted to a mandatory blood draw but police do not believe drugs or alcohol played a factor in the crash.
Police say they have no witnesses at this time and are asking anyone with information regarding the crash to contact Indiana State Police at 317-899-8577.
