LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- One person is dead and another is seriously injured after a van pulled out in front of a motorcycle in Lafayette Saturday evening.
The crash happened just after 7 p.m. in the 200 block of South Creasy Lane.
Investigators with the Lafayette Police Department determined that a van pulled out of the Sams Club parking lot and turned left into the path of a Harley-Davidson motorcycle.
The 42-year-old man driving the motorcycle was rushed to the hospital and then airlifted to Methodist Hospital with serious injuries. The passenger on the motorcycle, Melissa Shillings, 40, was taken to the hospital where she later died.
The passenger in the van was treated for minor injuries. The driver was not injured.
The accident remains under investigation but drugs and alcohol are not believed to be a factor in the crash.
