INDIANAPOLIS -- One elderly man was hospitalized due to a house fire that broke out Wednesday morning on Indianapolis' northeast side.
The fire started around 5 a.m. in the basement of a house on the 2900 block of Stuart Street.
The man was originally taken to Eskenazi Health with minor injuries, but they were upgraded to serious because of his age.
The fire began in the basement. The Indianapolis Fire Department had the fire out in 10 minutes. The fire department said it was difficult to get to the fire because there were a lot of items strewn about the house.
IFD says a family of five was displaced because of the fire. There were working smoke detectors.
