INDIANAPOLIS -- One person died after a Toyota Prius wrecked and caught fire on the Northeast side of Indy.
Rita Reith with the Indianapolis Fire Department says the white Prius wrecked around 4:45am Saturday at the intersection of 79th and River Road. A witness told investigators the Prius was speeding on westbound 79th when the car ran off the road and hit a utility pole.
The Prius flipped, and the driver was likely trapped in the car when it caught fire. Reith says an IMPD officer tried to put out the fire with an extinguisher, but says the fire grew too quickly for the officer to get to the driver. The driver was wearing a seatbelt, and their identity has not been released.
