INDIANAPOLIS — One person is dead and another critically injured after a vehicle went out of control and into a pond on the Indianapolis northwest side late Friday.
It happened at about 9:30 p.m. in the 2800 block of busy West 86th Street, across from Brebeuf High School.
According to Major Harold Turner of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, an SUV with two people inside lost control on 86th Street, jumped the curb and went into the water.
When firefighters arrived, the vehicle was submerged. Rescue teams worked quickly to get a man and woman out and rush them to nearby St. Vincent Hospital. Turner said the man died and the woman was in critical condition.
Weather appears to be a factor in the accident. According to Turner, the road was becoming slick at the time it happened.
Firefighters from Indianapolis and Pike Township took part in the rescue.
