MONTGOMERY COUNTY — One person is dead after a semi and a vehicle collided on I-74 in Montgomery County early Monday morning.

Indiana State Police responded to the crash in the eastbound lanes near mile marker 32.5, just west of the US 231 exit.

According to state police, Christina Mendoza, 26, was driving a gray 2013 Dodge Journey in the westbound lanes when she struck a deer. The accident disabled her vehicle in the right lane and police do not believe she had working lights on the vehicle.

State police say a 55-year-old man was also traveling in the westbound lanes in a semi when he came up on the disabled vehicle and did not see it, striking it from the rear. The force of the crash pushed the Dodge through the median and across the eastbound lanes. Both vehicles came to rest on the south side of the interstate, blocking both lanes of traffic.

Mendoza was pronounced dead at the scene. The semi driver was not injured.

Alcohol and drugs do not appear to be a factor in the crash, according to state police.

The crash remains under investigation.
