KOKOMO, Ind. -- A suspected drunk driver is facing charges in connection with a crash that left an 82-year old moped driver dead.
Dewayne Levine, 50, of Kokomo, is charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing death, a felony, and operating a vehicle while intoxicated within 5 years of a previous conviction, also a felony.
Kokomo police said Levine was driving in the area of Morgan and Ohio streets at 6:50 p.m. on Saturday when he crossed the center line and hit Charles Branch, 82, also of Kokomo.
Branch died as a result of his injuries.
"He never held anything back.I think he was a big kid," said Dennis Branch, Charles' son. "You kind of wonder where the court system failed."
Levine was taken to a local hospital where a toxicology test was performed as part of the investigation.
Levine also had an active arrest warrant on an unrelated charge, police said.
