INDIANAPOLIS – The owner of an Indianapolis bar that welcomed the city’s LGBTQ community died Wednesday night.

Phil Denton, the owner of Gregs Indy on the city's north side, died of a heart attack.

Denton purchased the bar in 1992, naming it Our Place. In 2002 the bar was renamed Gregs after Denton lost his longtime friend, Greg Powers.

The bar and supporting community raised over $400,000 for the annual AIDS Walk and also made contributions to organizations like Indy Pride, Indiana Youth Group, the Damien Center and others.
