Parkinson's patients choose to move in Greenwood

Posted

GREENWOOD, Ind. -- There's no cure for Parkinson's disease, but in Indiana, people are choosing to move to take their lives back.

A class in Greenwood called "The Climb" has participants working on exercise, reflection and connection to other people with the disease.

Penny Poynter told RTV6 she's made progress physically and emotionally through the class.

"I can move much better than I ever have," she said. "I don't have the pains I used to have, but boy the improvement I've seen in some of my co-exercisers is just incredible. To see how they can stand up straighter, how they move faster, walk faster, get those arms moving … things that didn't want to move before."

To help programs like this continue in Central Indiana, you can participate in the "Choose to Move" Walk for Parkinson's Disease in Fishers on September 17.
