INDIANAPOLIS — A 19-year-old passenger is in critical condition after a driver fell asleep at the wheel and crashed his vehicle into a pole.
Indianapolis Fire Department crews responded to the scene at East 30th Street and North Post Road just after 5:30 p.m.
The 22-year-old driver and his female passenger both had to be extricated from the vehicle. The driver told police he fell asleep at the wheel after being awake for 24 hours and his vehicle left the road and hit a pole.
The passenger was rushed to Eskenazi Hospital in critical condition. The driver's condition is not known at this time.
