INDIANAPOLIS – Two suspects involved in an alleged shootout over the weekend that prompted an Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officer to intervene have been identified and arrested.

Mark Buggs, 30, was injured in the shootout Friday afternoon. He was taken to UI Methodist Hospital to be treated for a gunshot wound to the leg and stomach. He will be arrested on two active warrants for narcotics offenses when he's released.

Monterio Mack, 25, ran from the scene but was arrested early Saturday morning. He's facing a preliminary charge of criminal recklessness with a weapon causing serious bodily injury. More charges are possible.

Police were called to the 1800 block of Brookside Avenue around 3 p.m. Friday for a report of vandalism.

When the officer arrived at the scene he saw two men firing at each other. The officer told the suspects to stop shooting, but when they refused he fired at them. Buggs was hit and Mack fled the scene. Police have not released whether it was the officer's bullet that struck the suspect.

Investigators believe the shooting was a result of an argument about clothing that escalated after a brick was allegedly thrown at a car window.
