INDIANAPOLIS -- An elderly woman was killed by a hit-and-run driver on Indianapolis' north side Saturday evening. 

It happened near the intersection of Illinois Street and 24th Street around 10 p.m.

According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, Marion Jones, 90, was pronounced dead at the scene. 

Police say the driver who hit her initially left the scene but later turned himself in at the police station.

Maurice Webster, 47, was taken into custody and charged with leaving the scene of an accident. 

The accident remains under investigation by the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.
