SHELBY COUNTY, Ind. -- A person drowned in a lake in Shelby County early Monday morning.

Indiana Conservation Officers said the drowning happened around 2 a.m., in a lake on the 4500 block of Birch Street in Fairland, Indiana.

A search and dive operation was conducted after Shelby County police received a 911 call.

Indiana State Police divers found the person, identified as Caleb M. Wilson-Gill, 24, of Fairland, Indiana., at 4 a.m., about 15 yards from shore.

Conservation officers say Wilson-Gill had tried to swim across the lake, but struggled on the swim back and went under the surface of the water.

He was fishing with two other people at the time.
