INDIANAPOLIS -- One man is in critical condition following a fire on Indianapolis' north side.

The fire broke out Monday evening at a house in the 2100 block of Bellefontaine Street, near East 22nd and North College, around 6:30 p.m.

Firefighters reported flames coming from the house when they arrived on the scene.

They found the 53-year-old man shortly after and he was taken to Eskenazi Hospital. No one else was hurt.

The fire was under control in about 20 minutes

Fire officials say there was about $60,000 in damage.

Neighbors say the house has been vacant for more than a year.
