Man stabbed, throat cut in attack on south side

INDIANAPOLIS -- A man's throat was cut in an attack on the south side of Indianapolis Thursday morning.

Police were called to a house on the 1000 block of Gilbert Avenue around 8 a.m. to find with multiple stab wounds and a cut throat in the kitchen of the house.

The man is a friend of the family that lives in the house. He arrived Wednesday evening to stay with the family.

A family of six lives in the house: A mother, father and four children. All six were inside the home when the attack happened, and found the victim Thursday morning.

Police say the victim and the family in the house are of the Chin culture from Myanmar. The father of the family living in the house used a phone to help translate when he was talking to police, since there was a language barrier.

The man was taken to Eskenazi Health in critical condition, with wounds to his chest, abdomen and throat.
