INDIANAPOLIS – A woman was hit by a vehicle on Indy's southwest side Friday night.

Indianapolis police said the accident happened near Kentucky Avenue and High School Road.

Detectives said a woman in her 70s was driving a silver car pulled over on the left side of the road, got out of her vehicle and was struck by a car.

The woman's car wouldn't start following the accident, police said and they believe there was a mechanical issue with the car.

They do not believe speed or alcohol were involved in the incident.

The cause of the accident or the name of those involved were not release by officers.

NOTE: In an earlier version of this story, police said the person struck was killed - but later changed the status of the victim to critical condition.
