INDIANAPOLIS -- Police say three people arrested for a gas station robbery Friday night are connected to the attempted robbery and shooting death of a Cumberland convenience store clerk.

The shooting happened at the Cumberland Express Mart & Tobacco Outlet on 11100 block of East Washington Street around 7:10 p.m. Friday. The area is just east of Washington Park East Cemetery.

Police say two people, armed with guns, got out of a car while a third stayed in the driver's seat.

The store's clerk and two other people were inside when police say the two suspects went inside and demanded cash.

What happened next was all recorded on the store's video surveillance store, but police say it is too graphic to release.

Police say the clerk refused to give them money and then one of the teens fired a single shot.

Both teens ran off to the car waiting in the parking lot.

Khushwilder Sing, 25, was shot once in the chest and pronounced dead at the scene.

Two and a half hours later, police say the Rich Oil on Brookville Road was robbed by the same people in the same car.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department says the clerk at that store was pistol-whipped multiple times and the suspects got away with cash.

Witnesses at the gas station followed the car and called police. The getaway driver eventually crashed. Police chased the three suspects and eventually arrested them.

Police say two of the three suspects arrested are juveniles. The third suspect is an adult. Police identified him as Kiree Hayes, 23.

Police say all three have been charged in connection to the robbery at the Rich Oil in Indianapolis, but have not been formally charged with the murder and robbery in Cumberland.
