INDIANAPOLIS -- Listen up, Millenials: If you want to get off mom's couch and into a downtown luxury apartment to live the glam life of an involved young professional, you're going to need to tighten the financial belt.
Pete the Planner, long-time finance advice guru from the Indianapolis-area, recently shared some advice with Indianapolis Monthly to help you get there that is specific to the Circle City.
Step 1: Eat Yats. No, seriously. It's cheap, and their food is amazing. So instead of the weekly Friday and Saturday night trips to the trendiest new eatery, save some cash by trying their special of the day instead.
Step 2: Living downtown? Ditch the car: Between gas, insurance, payments and maintenance - it's a heavy burden. Sign up for BlueIndy instead, which Pete says you can find "every 70 feet."
Step 3: Don't go to a gym: Indy's Monon and Cultural trails have all you need to get your exercise in each day.
Step 4: Read or need a movie? Make a routine to visit the Indianapolis Public Library. Not only is it beautiful, Pete says you'll save some money on entertainment costs each month.
Step 5: If there's an event you really want to attend to join the "In" crowd, volunteer. Most volunteers get access to the event for free, if not a boat-load more, Pete says.
Step 6: Need a side job for some extra cash? ClusterTruck makes it really easy to make an extra few bucks by delivering their food, Pete says. Really any of the food delivery and restaurant takeaway services that Indy is rampant with will do.
Pete the Planner is slated to show up on Good Morning America throughout the rest of the summer, showing up as an intervention for Millenials who are still mooching off of their parents, and need to get out. Tune in weekdays beginning at 7 a.m. after Good Morning Indiana.
