MOORESVILLE, Ind. -- A registered violent sex offender was arrested Tuesday for allegedly sneaking into Mooresville High School.
School officials say they caught 25-year-old Kenneth Trisler and another man slipping in through a door opened by a school sports team Tuesday afternoon.
"They were seen by the staff member and immediately reported that incident to police," said Susan Haynes, director of communications for Mooresville Schools.
Security footage shows the men were only in the school for a couple minutes before leaving out the front door. Police caught up with them at a nearby off-campus parking lot. That's where officers learned Trisler is a registered violent sex offender who had been warned in the past to stay away from the school.
Mooresville Schools sent a letter out to parents telling them about the breach.
"It's a very scary thought for our students," said Tiffany Kennedy, a Mooresville parent. "I do believe that the school is great about keeping the parents informed."
This isn't the only scary news Mooresville parents have had to process in recent weeks. On November 20, police arrested suspended student Jahnathan Dooley after a counselor reported that he threatened to blow up the school. Police found explosives at Dooley's house, and say he had plans to buy a sniper rifle.
School administrators say they're looking at what, if any, security adjustments they can make. School officials say while these situations might be scary, in both cases staff members did exactly what they should have.
