INDIANAPOLIS -- A public memorial service for Joey Feek will be held on Sunday in her hometown of Alexandria, Ind.
Joey passed away last Friday after battling cancer for nine months.
Her obituary starts off with this touching statement:
When Joey Marie (Martin) Feek sang "When I'm Gone" in 2012 for Joey + Rory's "His and Hers" album, the raven-haired country singer couldn't have known she would be leaving so soon.
It goes on to chronicle her life, her music, and how she and Rory met.
She first spotted husband Rory at a songwriter's night and felt drawn to him but thought her feelings were a mistake - he talked about his daughters and she assumed he was married. She soon learned he was single and they were married about four months after their first date in June 2002.

Details about a public memorial service for Joey Feek were released on Tuesday by long-time family friend, Bill Gaither.
The service will be held on Sunday, March 13 at 2:30 p.m. in the Alexandria-Monroe High School gym.
It will be hosted by Bill and Gloria Gaither, along with Rev. Jerry Young and Mike Owens.
According to the release posted on gaither.com, Rory Feek, his daughters and members of the Martin family will also be in attendance.
