INDIANAPOLIS — Public registration has begun for those wanting to attend former U.S. Senator Richard Lugar's funeral next week.

According to a news release, people can register here or at the Lugar Center's website. The Lugar Center will notify those who request seats with details about attendance or if it has run out of seats for the service.

Lugar's funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at St. Luke's United Methodist Church. The six-term senator died at the age of 87 on April 28 in Virginia.

Lugar will also lie in state in the Indiana state capitol building rotunda for 24 hours prior to the funeral. Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb and Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett will speak at noon Tuesday at a brief ceremony in the rotunda.

The funeral will also be broadcast online, and the Lugar Center said it will have more information in the next few days on how to view the service.
